The metamorphosing butterfly represents immortality. It is inspired by Miyamairi, a Shinto ceremony for newborns, similar to Christian baptism. The kimono worn by a baby for Miyamairi is often designed with butterflies, because butterflies signify a changed figure. The actual rug will be even more gorgeous than the design sheet.
